logistical informationozgrav student travel supportTo help enable attendance of our students, OzGrav headquarters will provide $800 per interstate student (i.e. students from Uni Adelaide, ANU and UWA) towards the costs of flights and accommodation. Nodes will be able to invoice Swinburne for the total amount after the event.
The booking of the flights and accommodation is the responsibility of the node. *Please note that in Victoria the 7th November is the Melbourne Cup public holiday. To avoid disappointment we strongly encourage you to arrange your flights and accommodation as soon as possible. flightsFlights will need to be arranged by each attendee in accordance with their own institution. Flights costs will need to be paid by each node. Please contact your node leader to confirm the best way to book your flights.
Once your flights have been booked please email your flight details to eogrady@swin.edu.au. This will allow us to explore the option of a chartered bus from the airport to Hawthorn. If you are an Affiliate of OzGrav and not involved with a node please contact Erin O’Grady (eogrady@swin.edu.au) if you require any assistance in arranging your flights. transportDue to the large variety of arrival dates and times and a chartered bus from the airport would not be feasible to accommodate most interstate attendees without incurring long waiting periods.
Below are some transport options available form Melbourne Airport: SkyBus and train SkyBus is an express bus service that connects Melbourne Airport with Southern Cross Station in the Melbourne city centre. It departs regularly from the domestic and international terminals and costs about $18 each way. The bus takes approximately 35-40 minutes. Pick up location from the airport can also be found here. You can pre purchase your ticket online https://skybus.umd.com.au/skybus/sales/?full Upon arrival at Southern Cross Station you can board a Belgrave, Lilydale or Alamein train to Glenferrie Station. Glenferrie Station is located right next to Swinburne University and a short walk to the retreat venue and the Quest apartments. The train journey will take approximately 20 minutes. If you are staying at alternate accommodation, a link to PTV journey planner can be found here to assist with your train travel. Myki You will need to purchase and top up a Myki card to travel on Melbourne trains. The Myki will cost $6.00 and if you top up your myki with a 2 hour fare of $4.10, this will be sufficient for your travel to Hawthorn. You can purchase and top up your Myki at the ticket machines at Southern Cross Station, or alternatively there will be an information desk where they can arrange this for you. Taxis from the airport There are taxi rankslocated on the ground floor outside terminal 1 and between terminals 3 and 4. Approximate taxi fare from Melbourne Airport to Hawthorn is $80 Uber Uber is also available from Melbourne Airport. accommodationPlease note for the ECR Workshop and Retreat, all attendees will be required to book their own accommodation. There has been a group pricing arrangement made at the Quest Hawthorn Apartments of $184 per night. The Quest apartments are conveniently located walking distance to Swinburne University and The Hawthorn Arts Centre. To book your room please call Quest Hawthorn on 03 8803 7700 and quote “OzGrav Group” when booking the room.
Please note that if you are a student, you may want to reduce costs by sharing a room with another student. If so, provide those details when booking your room. A credit card imprint will also be requested upon arrival and this will only be charged to cover any incidentals. Additionally, as you will see in our programs OzGrav have arranged numerous social events. We encourage you to all to come along and have some fun with your fellow OzGravers. These events are paid for by OzGrav and we hope you can all attend. CONFERENCE DINNERThe conference dinner will be held on 9th November at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, and the costs will be covered by OzGrav central. When registering please indicate if you will be attending the conference dinner and if you would like to bring a guest along. The guests' attendance is not covered by OzGrav and would be an additional cost of $105 per person to you.
