Brian Schmidt

Brian Schmidt has been at the forefront of supernova physics, their use as cosmological distance indicators, and large optical surveys since he started his PhD in 1989. He was the lead of the High-Z SN Search which in 1998 published the first evidence of an accelerating Universe. From 2004-2015 he was lead scientist of the SkyMapper project, and from 2016-2023 he was Vice Chancellor and President of the Australian National University.
