How to write a research brief

To submit your research brief, fill out the form here or alternatively, email Yeshe Fenner, attaching any figures and images to include.

Introduction: Explain the reason for the research using the “And, But, Therefore” format used by Nature. It takes the format: We know this AND this, BUT here is the problem. THEREFORE we have done the following. The Science X writing guide for researchers is a good reference too.

Body and conclusion: Following this, write a plain English summary of the method/approach and then conclude with the findings and what this means for the community (scientific or otherwise), or what the next steps may be as a result of this research.

How accessible is your work? Paste your article or upload a file in the ‘De-Jargonizer’ to analyse the amount of jargon in your writing.

Your article should be 400-600 words (maximum). If you have any images or figures to include (highly recommended), please upload them as an attachment.

Once the research brief is submitted, OzGrav HQ will review and edit it for publishing on the OzGrav website and social media platforms. If the article is relevant/timely, we will also publish it in the OzGrav newsletter—Space Times—and forward it to other media contacts and channels.
