David E McClelland FAA FAPS FOSA FAIP FASA received his PhD degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 1987.  He was awarded a Beverly Research Fellowship before being appointed in 1988 to The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia, as a Lecturer.  He is now a Distinguished Professor and Director of the ANU Centre for Gravitational Astrophysics, a joint Centre between the Research School of Physics and the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics.  He is the Chief Investigator for Australia’s Partnership in Advanced LIGO and Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav). He has won a number of prizes and awards and was a joint recipient of the Australian Prime Minister’s Prize for Science in 2020.
