OzFink workshop

Rationale
This workshop will connect researchers in Australia working in multi-wavelength and messenger transients and Fink, a Rubin Community broker that will receive within seconds all of the objects detected by LSST at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Currently Fink is processing the data from the Zwicky Transient Facility which serves as a prototype of Rubin. This workshop will develop collaboration across Australian research groups, observing facilities and the Fink collaboration.

Workshop Format
The workshop will be held on May 3 to 5 at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.
In this workshop we will have:
– Talks on research topics, telescope facilities in Australia and existing interfaces
– Tutorials on: Fink data access, connecting follow-up facilities, connecting multi-messenger and wavelength data and creating new filtered streams.
This meeting will be in hybrid format with participants both in person and on zoom.

Local Logistics

Venue
The meeting will take place at the Swinburne University of Technology (map).
The location will be  room BA 403 (level 4 of the BA building) except for Thursday morning when it will be room AGSE 202 (level 2 of the AGSE building). A PDF map of the campus can be found here: https://www.swinburne.edu.au/life-at-swinburne/locations/hawthorn-campus/

From the city/CBD the campus can be reached via train to Glenferrie station.

  • A multi story car park is available on campus on Wakefield Street. The parking costs $10 per day.

Covid-19 Event Safety

All Australian state and territory COVID-19 isolation mandates have ended in Australia. However, to ensure the event is an enjoyable and safe event for for all attendees  we ask that you follow the guidelines below.

Mask Wearing
We encourage all members to use masks during the entirety of the event to help protect our community. Masks will be available at our registration desk.

Testing 
We encourage all members to take a Rapid Test before arriving on Day 1 of the workshop, and if you test positive, please participate remotely.  If you are showing any cold and flu like symptoms, please do not attend in person.
