The gravitational wave field has a rich history of innovations with commercial impact and applications in industry and other sectors. OzGrav Chief Investigators already hold over 20 patents and have established 3 spin-off companies. OzGrav is committed to ensuring new technologies make it out of the lab and into the real world where they can make a lasting scientific, environmental or economic impact.
OzGrav's Research Translation program is led by A/Prof Jong Chow an OzGrav Associate Investigator at ANU and the Chair of our Research Translation Committee. Jong's research has a strong focus on adapting high-resolution gravitational wave interferometric techniques for industrial applications, and he leads the ANU gravitational wave instrumentation group in commercialisation and technology transfer. He has partnered with government and industry, and has extensive experience with patents, IP and licensing agreements. OzGrav is employing a range of strategies to support industry engagement and technology transfer, including regular industry briefings, industry internships, a progressive IP utilisation strategy, and co-location and joint appointments of industry and research staff.
